Pixelyt Privacy Policy
This policy explains how the Pixelyt Android app (package com.pixelyt.app) handles your
information. Pixelyt is published on Google Play by Pixelyt ("we", "us").
- Pixelyt does not have Android's internet permission, so it cannot connect to the internet or upload anything.
- We do not collect, receive, sell or share any of your data. There are no accounts, ads, analytics, tracking or telemetry.
- Everything Pixelyt works out about your photos is stored only on your phone, in the app's private storage, and you can delete it at any time.
- Nothing leaves your phone unless you share it to another app or export a backup file yourself.
1. What Pixelyt reads on your phone
Pixelyt is an organiser for the photos, screenshots, videos and documents already on your phone. To do that it reads, on your phone only:
- File details from Android's media store and from any document folders you link: name, type, size, dates, folder, dimensions, video length, and which app saved the file.
- The photos and videos themselves, to show them, to make small fingerprints used to find duplicates and similar photos, and to measure colours, sharpness and brightness for search and clean-up suggestions.
- Photo details (EXIF) such as the capture date and camera, and, only when you open a photo's details and allow it, where the photo was taken. Locations are shown to you, not stored by Pixelyt.
Pixelyt does not keep copies of your media, never uploads it, and changes, moves or deletes a file only when you ask. For photos and videos in your gallery, Android asks you to confirm first. For files in document folders you have linked, and when you crop a photo taken with Pixelyt's camera, Pixelyt carries out your request directly.
2. Finding people and words in your photos
Two features look inside your photos using small models that are built into the app and run entirely on your phone. Both start on after a one-time notice that lets you switch either off, and both can be switched off at any time in Settings.
- Find people in photos finds faces in your photos and stores, for each face, its position and a numeric fingerprint (a face template). These fingerprints are used only to suggest photos of the people you set up yourself; Pixelyt never names anyone on its own, and you confirm every suggestion. Turning the feature off deletes every face and fingerprint it stored; your own choices of example photos stay. Face fingerprints are biometric-type data: they never leave your phone, are never in backups, and we never receive them.
- Find words in photos reads the text in your photos and screenshots so search can find a photo by a word in it. Screenshots can contain sensitive things such as one-time codes or account numbers; the words read are used only to match your searches, are never shown elsewhere, never logged, never backed up and never leave your phone. Turning the feature off deletes every word read.
Photos you mark Private are hidden inside Pixelyt only (the file itself is not moved or encrypted, and other apps can still see it). Private photos are not read for faces, words or colours, and marking a photo Private deletes anything already found in it.
3. What Pixelyt stores, and where
Pixelyt keeps a private database inside the app's own storage on your phone. Other apps cannot read it. It holds:
- the file details listed above and the fingerprints used for duplicates, similar photos and colours;
- what you create: references (such as people, objects and places), collections, labels, notes, rules and history;
- if switched on, the faces found with their fingerprints, and the words read from your photos;
- your settings, and access to any document folders you linked.
Android's automatic cloud backup is turned off for Pixelyt, so this data is not copied to Google Drive or anywhere else. It stays until you delete it in the app, switch the features off, clear the app's storage, or uninstall Pixelyt, which removes it all.
Your own backup file. Settings › Backup can export your organisation to a small file saved wherever you choose. It holds your references, collections, labels, notes, rules and history; the names and folders of the files you organised and which ones you marked Private; and, for people you set up, which photos you chose as their examples or marked "Not them", with the position of the face in each. It contains no photos, no face fingerprints and no words read from photos. Once saved, that file is in your control.
4. Permissions
| Permission | Why Pixelyt asks for it |
|---|---|
| Photos and videos | To index and show your existing gallery. You can allow all photos or only some. |
| Folders you link | Android's folder picker gives Pixelyt read and write access to document folders you choose (such as Documents), so it can organise PDFs and Office files, and rename or delete them when you ask. |
| Camera | Only when you open Pixelyt's own camera. Photos you take are saved to your gallery. |
| Photo location | Only if you ask to see where a photo was taken. |
| Notifications | To show the progress of the face and words scans while they run. |
| Foreground service | Lets those scans keep running, with their notification showing, after you leave the app. |
| Keep awake, run after restart | Used by Android's job scheduler so an unfinished scan can carry on later, for example after the phone restarts. |
| Biometrics | For the optional app lock. Android checks your fingerprint, face or screen lock; Pixelyt never receives that data. |
Pixelyt does not ask for internet, contacts, microphone, location tracking, phone, SMS or account access.
5. Sharing
We do not share, sell or transfer any data, because none ever reaches us. Data leaves Pixelyt only when you choose:
- when you share a photo, or open it with another app, that app receives the file you picked;
- when you tap Map on a photo's details, your maps app receives that photo's coordinates;
- when you export a backup, the file goes wherever you save it.
The other app's own privacy policy then applies. When another app shares items to Pixelyt, Pixelyt only matches them to files already on your phone and makes no copies.
6. Google Play
If you installed Pixelyt from Google Play, Google may collect information such as installs and, if you have agreed in your device settings, crash and performance reports, under Google's Privacy Policy. We may see these as anonymous, aggregated statistics and crash reports in the Google Play Console. Pixelyt itself sends nothing.
7. Security
Your data stays inside Android's app sandbox. Most full-size photos read for the face and words scans are decoded in a separate, isolated process that has no permissions. You can also turn on the app lock in Settings so Pixelyt asks for your fingerprint, face or screen lock.
8. Children
Pixelyt is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
9. Your choices and rights
Because all data stays on your phone and we hold none, you are always in control: you can view and edit what Pixelyt stores in the app, switch off face matching or words in photos (which deletes their data), clear the app's storage in Android's settings, or uninstall the app to remove everything. We cannot access, export or delete data on your phone for you, because we never receive it. If you have a question about your rights under the law where you live, contact us.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how Pixelyt handles data, we will update this page and its effective date before the change reaches the app. If a future version ever needs to send data off your phone, it will say so in the app and ask you first.
